TEXT: Proverbs 3:9-10; Romans 11:16, Leviticus 23:10.

Proverbs 3:9 says Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the FIRSTFRUITS of all thine increase: Verse 10 says So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Rom.11:16 says for if the FIRSTFRUITS be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

Leviticus 23:10 says “When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest,” Leviticus 23:10. It is to be set apart as holy unto God!

Opening Prayer:

Oh Lord our God, the bible says you had been our dwelling place from generation past. Before the mountains were brought forth or ever thou have formed the earth, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. For this reason we give you thanks and praises, we honor your Holy name and we say thank you because you do always opens our ears to ear the truth in your word and to see the blessings inherent in it. Today Father please open our ears to hear again and our eyes to see the secrets of overwhelming blessings in your word and help us to be diligent enough to do accordingly in Jesus name we pray. Amen.

The Bible is replete with virtually inexhaustible provisions for Man’s comfort here on earth and in eternity. The oldest singular limitation is Man’s refusal to simply obey the WORD of GOD. 3 John 2 for instance reaffirmed God’s persistent intention and plan for man: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosperity. However, God not wanting to appear to man as a Dictator, grants man the freewill to enjoy virtually endless benefits ONLY on the condition of total obedience, to the giver of these benefits -The Almighty GOD.

God instructed Moses to expose the secret of overwhelming blessings to His chosen Nation of Israel. Moses obeyed God by stating the conditions precedent to man enjoying God’s overwhelming blessings. In the Books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, Moses stated the significance of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, in not less than thirteen (13) occasions.

Exodus 23:19 stipulates strict obedience to giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING. He repeated this again in Exodus 34:26. To remove any ambiguity on the significance of FIRSTFRUIT, God expressly instructed Moses again in Leviticus 23:10 that the euphoria of victory and celebration of wonderful accomplishment must not be allowed to obliterate compliance with His instruction on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

For brevity, let us itemize important points to note on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING:

  1. FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be taken to God’s house (Exodus 23:19; 34:26);
  2. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be delivered to the Priest of the Nation (Lev.23:10; Numbers 18:42) otherwise known as the High Priest as at then in Israel (Numbers 3:32);
  3. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING shall apply to all a man engages in for livelihood (Deuteronomy 18:4);
  4. The giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be accompanied with worship (Deuteronomy 26:10);
  5. It must be offered once and during each cycle of harvest, which was yearly in biblical time (Nehemiah 10:35). It must however be noted that in situations of multiple planting seasons within one year, FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING becomes due after each harvest exercise;
  6. The FIRSTFRUIT is the exclusive preserve of the one considered the Nation’s Man of God (II Kings 4:42); and
  7. The FIRSTFRUIT in Hebrew is “bikkurim” and literally means “promise to come.” And there is ONE who never breaks His promise – God! That is why the truth behind this “promise to come” in God’s Word is so powerful. Though long overlooked by many, this divine establishment of God’s order of things is actually the root that governs the rest. When you KEEP FIRST THINGS FIRST through faith and obedience, you turn God’s promise into provision… ABUNDANT PROVISION! The giving of FIRSTFRUIT must be done promptly along with payment of tithe ( II Chronicles 31:5).

  1. Givers of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING enjoy God’s comprehensive insurance. Jeremiah 2:3 says God issues automatic judgment on whoever or whatsoever attempts to devour givers of FIRSTFRUIT
  2. Isaiah 61:7, “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
  3. God can be called upon to specially favor the giver of FIRSTFRUIT (Nehemiah 13:31);
  4. The Old Testament text: Proverbs 3:9-10, state clearly that in addition to God honoring the giver of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, the giver also enjoys overflowing blessings from the Almighty God;
  5. The Old Testament text further implies that the honor rendered unto God by the giver of FIRSTFRUITS automatically attracts greater dimension of honor from GOD (I Sam 2:30b).
  6. FIRSTFRUITS are giving the first portion to GOD. Romans 11:16 says, “If the part of a dough offered as FIRSTFRUITS is HOLY, then the whole batch is HOLY; if the root is HOLY, so are the branches”. Giving the first portion of your finances to God will cause all of your finances for the rest of the year to be HOLY. FIRSTFRUITS causes God to treat your finances as HOLY giving you favor with GOD because your finances are connected to the FIRST FRUIT OFFERING.
  7. Ezekiel 44:30 “The first of all FIRSTFRUITS of every kind and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests: you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough to cause a blessing to rest on your house.” FIRSTFRUITS impart a blessing on your home. Many times a financial blessing is not our main need or concern. Having a blessing on your home positions you to have healing in your physical, spiritual and emotional need for you and your family. When you give FIRSTFRUITS not only do you benefit but your saved and unsaved loved ones do also.

God’s intention is that Man lives a life of true dominion, comfort and overwhelming blessings. However, realizing this divine desire depends on Man’s prompt, total and consistent obedience to God’s instructions, one of which is giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

Closing Prayers: If you have observed that your sincere desire to obey God promptly, totally and consistently, is being frustrated by inability to do so, Jesus is ready to give you the grace right NOW. All you need is to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, begin to attend a Bible teaching Church near your home, you will receive grace to experience God’s Overwhelming blessings.

  1. Emmanuel

ola I thank you for that humble study on this first fruit issue. But I want to say something here if I am wrong pls I stand corrected as we are all learning. I know that this first fruit law was given in appreciation of what God did for the Israelites in egypt and it was given by moses. how come these church leaders are only concerned about the money aspect of first fruit? read for me Nehemiah 10:35 they like that what happens to verse 36?is it not part of the law? cos it says as it is written by the law. my people we are not under the law anymore. let see the prophecy of Jeremiah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, then see 1corinthians11:25b, then go to Hebrew 8:7-13. my people when you read all these scriptures you will see the God Himself made all these laws obsolete. Christ has become the first fruit 1corinthains 15:20. No more No less.

If you’re paid in January for a work done the previous year, all you need to do is remove your Tithe. You can also give God a
Thanksgiving Offering if you so desire.

But your FIRSTFRUITS should be from d earning from the first job/contract you execute in a New year.

I have said in my earlier posts that FIRSTFRUITS don’t have to be ALL; so gross or net should not be an issue again. Decide how much you want to give as FIRSTFRUITS, remove your Tithe and live on the rest.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Patrick

Paying above Tithe is not wrong!
It’s a show of a greater Trust in God’s ability to take care of you with whatever is left…

However, it should be stated again that it’s not the prescribed obligation… People who do such do it out of their Personal Conviction and Relationship with God.

      Bless you sir.

  3. Agunloye Dupe

I thank God for this knowledge about given of first fruit, I pray that the knowledge of God’s word will increase more in you, so as to share more into us.thank you.

  4. Ola Opeoluwa

    @ Bassey Jacob

We bless God for the Increment in your salary.

Yes you need to pay the Tithe of all, and if you want to give the increment as your First fruit, please go ahead.

However, I have written in earlier comments that increment in salary is NOT the same as FIRSTFRUITS of Increase.

There is no fixed amount you can pay as FIRSTFRUITS! You can even give more than the increment in the salary… All to Honour God.

Hope this is clear enough sir.

    • Babalola babatunde

Thank you sir for sharing this wonderful topic but I will need more elaborate explanation on this FIRST FRUIT,for example there’s is always increase in my salary yearly either on appraisal (yearly)or union negotiation (every two years).
Which of this is my first fruit or do I need to assign a certain amount as my first fruit lower or higher than the yearly appraisal or the negotiation.
Note, there are some years I do receive negotiation and appraisal together as Increase and some only appraisal as my increase.
      Pls elaborate and advice more.
      What can I do?

  5. Pr Sem Lawrence

Thank you so much dear. That is the truth my heart is synonymous with.God bless you dear, Let us continue studying.

  6. Temmy

Sir i pray that d Lord increase your wisdom in Jesus name. U have not answer d person that asked if she can take her first fruit offering to camp during holy ghost service and also in a situation whereby someone attend d area headquarter not a parish and not familiar with the pastor can he or she write first fruit offering on d envelope and drop it in d offering basket?Pls i will be expecting your response

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Temmy

Thanks for pointing out the omission… I have responded to the question now.

As per your question; yes you can do so if your spirit leads you so, although I would have said you should take it to your Parish Pastor or in the least a Pastor you know so well.

  7. Sola Ade

Please I will just want to know if the daddy answering all the question is a mouth piece of dad’s G.O. As in, is this what daddy G.O. Says about first fruit. The answers brought a lot of relief to me but just want to be sure that is what the mission says. Thank you sir.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Sola Ade

Sir / Ma, the person answering the questions is NOT a mouth piece of Daddy G.O.
He is just one of the brothers who have obtained Mercy…

I wouldn’t want to say “this is what Daddy or anyone says about Firstfruits”. I have only shared some of the Truths I found in the scriptures.

I think if what you have read is in line with the scriptures, then you are safe to follow such Truths and act accordingly…

  8. Owoicho

Thank you so much for this exposition Ola Opeoluwa. Are you a pastor in RCCG? Please let other pastors know this truth. This is very expedient because on the issues of Tithe and First fruits, the pastors have made God look wicked and one who enjoys laying burden and guilt on the people. May God bless you real good and increase you in anointing and understanding in Jesus name.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Owoicho

I give All Thanks to God sir / ma.
And to the prayers, I say Amen.

Please, I’m NOT a pastor in RCCG or anywhere else. I am a brother that has found Mercy.

I’m also praying that the Truths of God’s Word especially on these Subject matters (Tithes and Firstfruits) will reach every Servant of God within and outside the RCCG Mission and will get to every Child of God who desires to Know and Practice the Truth.

Thanks and God bless you sir / ma

  9. kemi Durojaiye

Sir, do I add the oct-dec bonus of last yr paid along with my January salary to the first fruit? I work shift I rarely go to church on Sunday do I hand it over to my pastor or just label it and drop in the tithe basket because there is no altar call for it.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Kemi Durojaiye,

Good evening and God bless you ma.

In all honesty, your bonuses of October – December are not meant to be part of your FIRSTFRUITS though you received the payment together with your January salary.

However, if you’re led to give it all alongside your January salary, pls go ahead.

But remember that even, giving All the January salary is NOT an Obligation. This I have tried to clarify in some of my earlier posts. So, the issue of spreading the payment over several months should not come in. If #1 is what you think you can afford to give as your FIRSTFRUIT, please let it be the First deduction from your Salary, package it properly and take it to God’s Servant to receive The Blessing on your life and your FIRSTFRUITS.

Concerning the question on the type of Firstfruits: If my guess was right, I think you’re trying to remember FIRSTFRUITS SACRIFICE.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Kemi Durojaiye

About the issue of Shift and not being available most Sundays in Church: I believe you can create time to take your FIRSTFRUITS to Church and even hand it over to your pastor directly.

However, if this is going to be very difficult, then you may want to consider the option of putting it in a well – labeled envelope and dropping it in the Offering Basket.
But God’s recommendation is to take it to and give it to The Priest…

  10. kemi Durojaiye

Sir, is Oct-Dec 2015 bonus paid with January salary inclusive of the first fruit? Can we spread the payment of first fruit over 3 month or is it compulsory it should be paid once. Im also tryn to remember my pastor’s teaching stating that there are 3 types of first fruit.1. is the one we are talking about. 2. Is the first salary when u get a new job. 3. Is what I can’t remember. Do u have any idea on this?

  11. Ola Opeoluwa

    @ Funmilola

    I’m sorry I didn’t respond to this question earlier…

Yes you can take your FIRSTFRUITS to the Redemption Camp.
Just label it properly before dropping it in the Offering basket…

    God bless you ma.

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Suzy

      God bless you Sis.
I wouldn’t know why you would not want the Father of the House to bless you in prayers. If you have access to your Pastor, it’s the ideal to give your first fruits to him directly.

However if you don’t have direct access to him, then you can drop it in the offering basket (having labeled it properly).

Are you sure that the offering you drop at the altar is safe? Except if you mean dropping it at the altar during a service…

  12. Joseph

Praise Jesus. I have just come across this exposition on First Fruits today. In as much as the First Fruits applies to the First month’s salary ie January income and my heart wants to honor God, can I give from my February salary (since I did not know about it in January) or does that not count because February is the 2nd month? Kindly remember, I’m only finding out this teaching today and January is already gone…however, I would still like to tap into the blessings of the First Fruits. Will God accept it from my February salary…or do I just give a thanks giving offering instead because it seems the First Fruits boat has already sailed?

    Joseph from Kenya

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Joseph from Kenya

      Glad to “hear” from you.
Trust you’re doing fine in Kenya.

I’ll like to say that I love your attitude and response to the Truth… God HIMSELF I’m sure is happy with you.

It’s better late than never! Go ahead and give your First fruit to God from your February salary. God will surely accept it and bless your Obedience. Please tap into the blessings of this Divine Ordinance and await God’s Special Move in Ur direction this year.

      God bless you sir.
      Best Regards

  13. beverly

I paid my first fruit 2015 and I got loads of blessings. Never saw any reasons to lack or want and to crown it all Dec 2015 my salary increased miraculously.,. God is so awesome

    • Ola Opeoluwa

      @ Beverly

Sure God is awesome and I have found HIM Faithful! May HIS Name be Praised for ever.

Hope you have paid your First Fruit this year as well.
More of God’s blessings in your life in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  14. Ann I

    Dear Sir,

I bless God for the explanations you have given on the subject of first-fruits offering, it has really enlightened me. I must confess, I haven’t been giving my first-fruits offering, all because of the confusion and lack of clarity on the subject. But now, I repent because I have clearly seen the light.

My question is, having missed giving in the month of January, can it be given this month of February?
    2. Whenever month of the year you get a new job, can the first-fruit offering be paid in that month? Would it matter?

    God bless you abundantly…

  15. Enioluwa

I believe purpose in view would spur us to good works. We have been indoctrinated because we refused to search scriptures by ourselves.

Why does God desire us to give to Him…? Simply so that there wouldn’t be lack in the service of His house and so that we may activate the Law of Seed time and Harvest…If you don’t sow, you ain’t going to reap! Or rather, if you don’t sow, you’re going to reap…weeds! (Malachi 3:10).

As a matter of principle, I believe your first fruit implies that which derives from your labour as wage, harvest or income. Let’s not come under guilt and condemnation of people who are either ignorant of the truth or simply just ‘belly’ centred self-appointed mercenaries.

What fraction are we to give? I take my cue from Abraham who gave a tenth to Melchizedek, even though most times that’s about the least I have ever given. Whenever there is a need, even after I have given…I jump at it.

The New Covenant speaks of giving and not tithing or first fruiting. Break free from the legalistic inclination that seeks to give a false sense of ‘righteousness’.

The Epistles are replete with acts of giving that ”ministered to the saint” such that ”there was none that lacked”. Painfully, many places where the issue of first fruiting is emphasised, lack is prevalent! Even our Saviour, Jesus spoke of it once in passing. The emphasis of Christ were on the ”weightier” matters such as judgment, mercy and faith. One thing links all these together UNDERSTANDING! Understanding times and seasons, knowing the will of God and being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Simply put, understanding for dispensing. This is fundamental to all acceptable ‘acts’ of worship.

Lovers are givers. But I must confess too, just like that brilliant mind (Ola) said, I learnt little by little…and still learning. Mehn this tithe thing works! I asked the Lord to teach me how to give (I knew myself that I was stingy), and He is teaching me graciously. You could ask the Holy Spirit for help.

And lastly don’t walk in guilt or condemnation from satan…you’re beloved and accepted. You will make heaven with or without paying your tithe or firstfruit, but know for sure, you’re shooting yourself in the leg failing to do so.

  16. As an Old Testament scholar, I humbly submit that the concept of First Fruit Offering (FFO) is a regulation for the Jewish nation, which contemporary Christian need not to carry out. Most Scriptural passages that speak of this concept are from the OLd Testament. References that are made to FFO in the New Testament are symbolic application. Christ is the symbolic First Fruit for the Christian. Hear what other scholars say about FFO. Below is a copied material also from the net. I agree totally with this presentation hence I pasted it as part of my reply.

Question: “What was the firstfruits offering? Should Christians give a firstfruits offering today?”
Answer: Firstfruits was a Jewish feast held in the early spring at the beginning of the grain harvest. It was observed on Nissan 16, which was the third day after Passover and the second day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Firstfruits was a time of thanksgiving for God’s provision.
Leviticus 23:9-14 institutes the firstfruits offering. The people were to bring a sheaf of grain to the priest, who would wave it before the Lord. A burnt offering, a meal offering, and a drink offering were also required at that time. Deuteronomy 26:1-10 gives even more detail on the procedure of firstfruits.
No grain was to be harvested at all until the firstfruits offering was brought to the Lord (Leviticus 23:14). The offering was made in remembrance of Israel’s sojourn in Egypt, the Lord’s deliverance from slavery, and their possession of “a land that floweth with milk and honey.” The day of the firstfruits offering was also used to calculate the proper time of the Feast of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15-16).
In the New Testament, the firstfruits offering is mentioned seven times, always symbolically. Paul calls Epaenetus and the household of Stephanas “the firstfruits of Achaia” (Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:15). His meaning is that, just as the firstfruits offering was the first portion of a larger harvest, these individuals were the first of many converts in that region. James calls believers “a kind of firstfruits of His creatures” (James 1:18). Just like the sheaf of grain was set apart for the Lord, so are believers set apart for God’s glory.
The firstfruits offering found its fulfillment in Jesus. “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20). Jesus’ resurrection has paved the way for our resurrection. Significantly, if Jesus was killed at Passover, then His resurrection on the third day would have fallen on Nissan 16—the Feast of Firstfruits.
The firstfruits offering is never directly applied to Christian giving in the New Testament. However, Paul taught the Corinthian believers to set aside a collection “on the first day of the week” (1 Corinthians 16:2). And, just as the offering of firstfruits was an occasion of thanksgiving, so the Christian is to give with gladness.
In summary, firstfruits symbolizes God’s harvest of souls, it illustrates giving to God from a grateful heart, and it sets a pattern of giving back to Him the first (and the best) of what He has given us. Not being under the Old Testament Law, the Christian is under no further obligation than to give cheerfully and liberally (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

  17. Ireoluwa Ayodele

Opeoluwa Thank you for this understanding of Firstfruit offering. God bless your knowledge bank. Am blessed. I have the understanding that Firstfruit is an act of thanking God for increase.

Ola what is take on my comment

  19. Dave

Correct Sir. It never said d first income of d year but d first of your increase(income) prov 3:9. Like we have read above, a sheaf, the best part etc of all your income. It is not a once in a year thing. But on all your income. The Rabbis practice 1/60 today, use your descretion and make sure you are honouring God with whatever you decide but remember 2cor 9:6-7. Thank you.

    • jdcrux

Its advisable to drop it in the National Secretariat office. You will be told the appropriate office that collects it rather than just dropping it on any box. God Bless.

  20. dudu

Thank you so much. I needed clarity. A pastor once said we shouldn’t be surprised when God doesn’t bless us with new job opportunities because God knows we wouldn’t be willing to pay our full salary. I felt he was planting a seed of fear in us. Well he certainly did so to me.
He even makes examples of people who’ve lost their jobs because they didn’t pay their first fruits I was very confused cos I thought tithe plays a role of protecting what God has blessed you with. Thank you especially cause you quoted scriptures.

  21. Chinyere Queen

Please can someone pay all as first fruit in this month of July cos she has been jobless for long until last month being june she got a job.please i need an urgent reply.

  22. Emmanuel

I believe the writer of this blog loves God and is not a charlatan but it is incredible sad and disheartening to see how the teaching of the first fruits has been polluted … A message of giving to get, a prosperity message used to convict people to give while instilling fear if they don’t. It is sad to see that the writer of this blog is willing to promote the first fruits instruction but probably doesn’t do so for the festival of booths and other ceremonial Instructions. My question to the writer is this. since the festival of first fruits only relates to grain, meat and drink: would you direct people to do as instructed or will you ‘adapt’ the instructions for moneis? (Please note the money was available and widely used in biblical times but no instruction was given to provide money to the priests. Also refrain from referring to the fact that we are no longer a society of farmers blah blah blah) ..

  23. Tolu

I really want to do dis next year but need more clarity. Dec salary comes Jan while Jan salary comes Feb. So I don’t wen to pay it.

    Galatians 3:28, Colossians 3:11:
All Christians alike, no matter what their race, status, or sex, stand on the same footing of sonship before God. There is a unity or solidarity in the Christian body. What is true of one is true of all.

    Question on First Fruits:

I live in an environment where I contributed into a form of insurance so that I can get some money when I am not working.

I am currently not working but because of prior contribution into the insurance fund when I was working, I get paid an amount to offset my living expenses. I think this represents my earnings. I also get other benefits paid by government to help support my family. The question is that I will get paid a government benefit in first week of January which is relatively small because it is merely a support payment. I will then get paid 4x the support payment I received in the 2nd week of January which was from the deductions made from my salary when I was working. I will like to pay the bigger amount because I think that closely represents what resulted from earnings. However, that would be the 2nd payment I get in January. Can you please provide guidance on which should be the first fruit payment in this regard?

I just like the first fruit concept but I agree that it is opened to various interpretations as it is a bit vague.

    Thank you.

  26. Tope

Dear sirs, I feel the answers to these questions would help to explain the basis for giving first-fruits:
    1. How come this is law of giving first-fruits is selected for “strict obedience” in the midst of numerous ceremonial laws?
    2. I find only one New Testament verse (Rom. 11: 16) is used to explain the basis of giving a first-fruit; is this reference verse sufficiently interpreted to teach Christians to give first-fruits?
    3. I support your view that first-fruits were given to the high priest of Israel, that means it goes to Jesus Christ. In what form does He receive and use all these first-fruit money collected by the church?
    4. The early Christians primarily gave cheerfully to meet each others needs and it was recorded that they were blessed always (Acts 2: 44–47; Acts 6: 1–7; I Cor. 9: 14–16; II Cor. 8–9; Philip. 4: 10–19); is that possible today or not?

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

I t is always advised to pay your first fruit in the church you attend regularly and where you have being spiritually nourished. For the benefit of doubt you can pay directly using the online giving platform.

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

First fruit is your first income or earning in the new year. If you pay first fruit with your first gift you will also receive God’s blessing on it.

  27. Thoba khumalo

Thank you very much for the teaching, I did not read all the questions asked, thus I apologise if my question has been asked already and I am repeating an asked question.
My question is, I will be giving my first fruits for the first time, meaning my whole months salary as the year is starting, what about my tithe. Am I also expected to tithe?

  28. okonkwo Stella

I receive my Dec salary on Jan, should I use it as my first fruit. Or should I remove my tithe and give the remaining salary as my first fruit. Pls enlighten me more. God bless you

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

First fruit is the proceed from the first job you did in the new year. I advice you use your salary for January as first fruit not December salary. You are supposed to remove your tithe before paying.

  29. David o

Please kindly put more clarification to this question. Can someone pay his or her first fruit offering with leave allowances that was paid with the salary?

  30. Mr Obi

    Good Morning Sir,

      Hello Mr Obi,
Have you presented your situation before the elders of your local church?
In all honesty, how are things with you now?
      Regards, Vick.

Do you need to labelled tithes, offerings and thanks giving offerings, first fruits, seeds etc with your name. I have never done(beside labelling the envelope as what the respectful giving is e.g. tithes) as I believe I am giving to God from my heart and don’t really need to indicate or make known to man how much I am giving. I give cheerfully in the above mentioned and have nothing to hide. But I am just inclined to ask why do you need to Labelled it with you name as I am concerned, was it done like that in the bible. Please I would like to be enlightened and know the truth. I asked this question once and was given an answer to the extent of it was for recording purposes of how much a person gives(which can be related back to if the person needs help from the church) and secondly for being responsible to governing bodies/ government during auditing processes

  32. Tolulope

Thanks for all the questions and answers especially the Bible passages and explanations. The truth has been told. We are a product of our choice and faith. Equipped with these knowledge knowledge let us do the will of God as we grow in obedience.

God bless you for this teaching. Please sir enlighten me. i recieved bonus in January which is about a quarter of my salary. Bonus came in 26th while salary came in 31st. can i use the bonus as first fruit?

Honour the Lord with what is honourable, cheerfully and not grudgingly or by compulsion. There are those who give more than the required 10% as Tithes, look at the scriptures as explained and give what your conscience is settled with. God deserves our all and if we cannot give Him ALL, He is not mad at us. But the same measure we give, we shall receive according to the spiritual law. Honour the Lord with your FirstFruits and circumcise your blessings. FIRSTFRUITS IS ALL ABOUT PUTTING GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE.

  35. Dan

@Olaoluwa….Correction..where you elect to pay part of your increase as firstfruits , please remove the first fruit first ( as the name implies ..should be done first ) and from the balance you bring your THITHE and not the other way round as advised.

Likewise, I do not agree that there is lack prevalent where the first fruit is emphasized . This is not what is written. Your point however is noted about the right motive

  36. Rose

Please sir, can I give out my First fruits for the development of church because I’m a baptist member and right now we don’t have Pastor in my church

  37. Temmy

    1. why do we generally like to be put under laws and obligations? this is how the generality of xtains are put under siege by their pastors despite the freedom they have in Christ
    2. God bless your heart Mr OLA Opeyemi.
    3. it is my desire and prayer that before any other person writes or asks any other question, take time and be patient enough to got to the top and read the explanation and brief teaching on the topic and go through your bible toooo.
    4. Always seek to be directed by the holy spirit…this is key to you as a believer…if you choose this the question of HOW and WHEN and am I doing it right or proper or wrong will not arise…
    5. Always search your heart and question your motives….you can never bribe God nor Cajole him…He loved you and Loves you…if you choose to give so as not to loose your job or to “secure” your job, most assuredly I say unto you, you shall loose that job….
    6. let us seek to grow in the knowledge of Christ and read your bible for yourself…..
    thanks and God bless

  38. Agboola Oluwatobi

I want to say thank you for the message, but here is my take on your last comment, I believe that God is not a negotiator, it either you give your full salary as first fruit or not at all.

    • Don’t be deceived! It’s either you give all your first income as first fruit to God Almighty or give not at all. Don’t give part, but give all and see what God will do.
      God bless!!!

    Thanks dear friend.
I personally, DR.TEMMY OLUSANYA will give ALL I have to GOD!
I don’t think I have got that time to be checking different versions of the bible or Wilkepedia to know if to give half or a whole to GOD.What you considered as the best might not be the best darling to GOD. So my dear brother, why not let us hand over ALL we have to HIM? Afterall, the Earth is of the LORD and they that dwelleth therein.

I remembered about 17years ago when I was looking for a job,I told GOD if you give me a job whatever they first pay me as the salary will be for you up to the kobo on it.
To the glory of ALMIGHTY GOD, I was given the job and when the salary was paid, I gave ALL to GOD to the nearest Kobo!
The testimony in it is that, I did not suffer neither borrowed from anybody throughout the month and this is a Northern part of Nigeria where I knew nobody.People came to me and gave me things without asking them to give me anything. They blessed me with Money and foodstuffs.
So, if you give all to HIM,all any other things are already settled my dear.
Try and see that GOD is good.

  42. Don’t be deceived! It’s either you give all your first income as first fruit to God Almighty or give not at all. Don’t give part, but give all and see what God will do.
    God bless!!!

Giving God all your first-fruit works great things in ones life through out the year, as i am a living testimony. he will continue to take care of your finance as you do not have to worry.
Give your first fruit with faith and believe that your finance is secured no matter the storm that comes.
    God bless you.

Firstfruits offering: Whats Bible say about firstfruits?

    By Pastor E. Adeboye

Memorise: “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase:” (Proverbs 3:9)

    Read: Proverbs 3:9-10

Today’s reading says those that know their God honour Him with their first fruits. If you do not pay your first fruits, it is an evidence that you are yet to know who you serve. Those who know God never trivialise His commands because whatever He asks you to do is of utmost importance.

<p When Abraham gave Isaac as an offering to God, he was honouring God with his first fruits. No wonder today, he has countless children all over the world! Your first salary in a new job is your first fruits. The first profit from a new line of business is your first fruits. For those already working, every year, your first salary or profit is your first fruits. When promoted to another level, the difference between your former salary and the new one is your first fruits. Honour God with it. As you faithfully pay it, an abundance is triggered.

“A just weight and balance are the LORD’s: all the weights of the bag are his work” (Proverbs 16:11). Those who will be strong materially never take the money that does not belong to them. They know it will be counter-productive. Lies, falsification of records, and other fraudulent measures cannot add to you. They will work against your financial prosperity.

<p Have you ever sat back to compare how you spend the money that comes clean with the ones that come through the back-door? If you do, you will observe that the former is peaceful, gives joy and is well spent. The latter however, does not give its owner peace of mind. Negative events suddenly erupt and before long such wealth is gone. You cannot use such money to do something truly meaningful. An Alhaji once gave his hall for rent to a Gospel church. After some years, he was under pressure by Muslim leaders to eject the church. He refused, saying the little that the church pays him is clean money. He could not compare it with the millions of dirty money he gets.

Proverbs 15:16 says, “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith”. What most struggling believers do not know is that the rich in the world are envious of them. The CEO of a large establishment was envious of one of his staff who is a believer. The staff was poorly paid and denied his benefits for years, yet the little he has, as well as the clothes he wears, became the envy of his multi-millionaire boss. This year, you will be envied. Your little will be blessed. The Lord will multiply your blessings. You will overtake those ahead of you. But remember to honour the Lord with every increase He brings your way.

Are you owing God first fruits? Pay it today!

  45. Nnanna

Thank you for the explanation. A pastor advised me to pay my first fruit after removing my tithes, my understanding is to pay all after removing the tithe. I have been worried because my family depends on the salary, my rent has expired and a lot of other things that is based on the salary. Kindly advise further. God bless you.

pls sir enlighten me more am a day earner how can pay my first fruits,is it for throughout the or the day money

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

Your first fruit is your first income or earning in a new year based on how you receive your pay. if you are paid daily you can gather it together for a month. you will receive the blessing and if you decide to pay based on d pay of the first earning of a day, you are still right. The more you give; the more your blessing.

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

First fruit is different from tithe. Tithe is the 10% of your income. e.g if your monthly income is $100,000, your tithe $10,000.

First fruit is the first income you earn in a year irrespective of the month of the year. When you want to pay your first fruit, you will remove the tithe from the income and pay the remaining as your first fruit

  47. Faustina

Please i need more enlightenment about the firstfruit offering. Do you give your first sales as first fruits offering if you own a business?
God richly bless you for the good work.

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

Your first fruit goes to the High Priest of your church. E.g in RCCG, It goes to the General Overseer.

  48. Hudson

Praise God. I want to ask something that puzzle me about 1st fruit. I read somewhere that everything that opens the womb is 1st fruit for God. So, if I have my cow and it gives birth, I will give the calf as first fruit. Then I wait for the cow to produce again and I rear its calf. Now when this calf also produces, do I have to give its first fruit (the calf that opens its womb), and then i rear the 2nd and when it also produces, i give its first and the story goes on like that…..advise me please (i hope my question is understood). And then 2nd question: if i am a pig rearer and my pig produces 12 piglets, do i have to offer all of them as first fruit? Thanks…waiting for your kind reply.

    • Vick

      Dear Hudson,
Only the first cow is God’s. Same applies to all the other animals whether they are born of same cow or not.
For example, if your cow gives birth for the first time then that calf is the Lord’s.
When it continues to give birth year after year which must surely happen, they are all yours.

When the calves mature & give birth then the first which opens the womb shall be the Lord’s.

You can take it to your church pastor or sell it & bring the FULL amount to God’s house.

The house of God is the designated place to present your first fruit. Those who take it elsewhere will not get the promises.

      Bless you bro !

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

It is advised that you rear them up, sell them and take the proceeds to the High Priest of your church.

  49. Vick

On January 2015, I gave my first day’s wage as my first fruit (wage I got from my first day’s work in January).
In January 2016 I gave my first week’s pay as my first fruit offering.
This year, I also gave my first January week’s wage…
Then I got promoted & gave my first week’s pay as first fruit of the Increase .

I must confess, I’ve never been broke or misfortuned since I started the practice of first fruits offering.

Even those who tried to get me out of my job eventually left & favours just keep pouring in like rain nonstop to this moment.

Am looking forward to giving an even bigger first fruits soon so my advice to everyone is:

Don’t question it, & don’t go broke because you are not sure of how much exactly to give. If God lays it in your heart to give a day’s wage or a week’s or a month’s or your entire savings or to give everything you own in this life, then go ahead.
But the bottom line is that God doesn’t want you broke at any time in your life !!!

Am not a member of RCCG but we’re all members of one body- Christ. I came across this post while doing some research online.

Give the first & the best – your giving must hurt you to qualify as a sacrifice . Jesus was hurt as an example of a sacrifice / offering to us.

I hope this helps… God bless you folks!

  50. Boniface Samuel

sir thanks for this insightful teaching . i pray for more wisdom, knowledge and understanding in Jesus Name. pls i want you to clarify the statement you made in one of your reply to one of the question asked. you said that first fruit does not require paying all that is received, that one can just decide what to pay. why do you see it that way?
