PAYMENT OF FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING: SECRET OF OVERWHELMING BLESSING

TEXT: Proverbs 3:9-10; Romans 11:16, Leviticus 23:10.

Proverbs 3:9 says Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the FIRSTFRUITS of all thine increase: Verse 10 says So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Rom.11:16 says for if the FIRSTFRUITS be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

Leviticus 23:10 says “When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest,” Leviticus 23:10. It is to be set apart as holy unto God!

Opening Prayer:

Oh Lord our God, the bible says you had been our dwelling place from generation past. Before the mountains were brought forth or ever thou have formed the earth, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. For this reason we give you thanks and praises, we honor your Holy name and we say thank you because you do always opens our ears to ear the truth in your word and to see the blessings inherent in it. Today Father please open our ears to hear again and our eyes to see the secrets of overwhelming blessings in your word and help us to be diligent enough to do accordingly in Jesus name we pray. Amen.

INTRODUCTION

The Bible is replete with virtually inexhaustible provisions for Man’s comfort here on earth and in eternity. The oldest singular limitation is Man’s refusal to simply obey the WORD of GOD. 3 John 2 for instance reaffirmed God’s persistent intention and plan for man: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosperity. However, God not wanting to appear to man as a Dictator, grants man the freewill to enjoy virtually endless benefits ONLY on the condition of total obedience, to the giver of these benefits -The Almighty GOD.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING

God instructed Moses to expose the secret of overwhelming blessings to His chosen Nation of Israel. Moses obeyed God by stating the conditions precedent to man enjoying God’s overwhelming blessings. In the Books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, Moses stated the significance of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, in not less than thirteen (13) occasions.

Exodus 23:19 stipulates strict obedience to giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING. He repeated this again in Exodus 34:26. To remove any ambiguity on the significance of FIRSTFRUIT, God expressly instructed Moses again in Leviticus 23:10 that the euphoria of victory and celebration of wonderful accomplishment must not be allowed to obliterate compliance with His instruction on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

For brevity, let us itemize important points to note on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING:

  1. FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be taken to God’s house (Exodus 23:19; 34:26);
  2. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be delivered to the Priest of the Nation (Lev.23:10; Numbers 18:42) otherwise known as the High Priest as at then in Israel (Numbers 3:32);
  3. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING shall apply to all a man engages in for livelihood (Deuteronomy 18:4);
  4. The giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be accompanied with worship (Deuteronomy 26:10);
  5. It must be offered once and during each cycle of harvest, which was yearly in biblical time (Nehemiah 10:35). It must however be noted that in situations of multiple planting seasons within one year, FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING becomes due after each harvest exercise;
  6. The FIRSTFRUIT is the exclusive preserve of the one considered the Nation’s Man of God (II Kings 4:42); and
  7. The FIRSTFRUIT in Hebrew is “bikkurim” and literally means “promise to come.” And there is ONE who never breaks His promise – God! That is why the truth behind this “promise to come” in God’s Word is so powerful. Though long overlooked by many, this divine establishment of God’s order of things is actually the root that governs the rest. When you KEEP FIRST THINGS FIRST through faith and obedience, you turn God’s promise into provision… ABUNDANT PROVISION! The giving of FIRSTFRUIT must be done promptly along with payment of tithe ( II Chronicles 31:5).

OVERWHELMING BLESSINGS OF GOD

  1. Givers of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING enjoy God’s comprehensive insurance. Jeremiah 2:3 says God issues automatic judgment on whoever or whatsoever attempts to devour givers of FIRSTFRUIT
  2. Isaiah 61:7, “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
  3. God can be called upon to specially favor the giver of FIRSTFRUIT (Nehemiah 13:31);
  4. The Old Testament text: Proverbs 3:9-10, state clearly that in addition to God honoring the giver of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, the giver also enjoys overflowing blessings from the Almighty God;
  5. The Old Testament text further implies that the honor rendered unto God by the giver of FIRSTFRUITS automatically attracts greater dimension of honor from GOD (I Sam 2:30b).
  6. FIRSTFRUITS are giving the first portion to GOD. Romans 11:16 says, “If the part of a dough offered as FIRSTFRUITS is HOLY, then the whole batch is HOLY; if the root is HOLY, so are the branches”. Giving the first portion of your finances to God will cause all of your finances for the rest of the year to be HOLY. FIRSTFRUITS causes God to treat your finances as HOLY giving you favor with GOD because your finances are connected to the FIRST FRUIT OFFERING.
  7. Ezekiel 44:30 “The first of all FIRSTFRUITS of every kind and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests: you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough to cause a blessing to rest on your house.” FIRSTFRUITS impart a blessing on your home. Many times a financial blessing is not our main need or concern. Having a blessing on your home positions you to have healing in your physical, spiritual and emotional need for you and your family. When you give FIRSTFRUITS not only do you benefit but your saved and unsaved loved ones do also.

CONCLUSION

God’s intention is that Man lives a life of true dominion, comfort and overwhelming blessings. However, realizing this divine desire depends on Man’s prompt, total and consistent obedience to God’s instructions, one of which is giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

Closing Prayers: If you have observed that your sincere desire to obey God promptly, totally and consistently, is being frustrated by inability to do so, Jesus is ready to give you the grace right NOW. All you need is to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, begin to attend a Bible teaching Church near your home, you will receive grace to experience God’s Overwhelming blessings.

Dear Heavenly Father, be merciful unto us your children.
May the truth of Your Word set us free to worship You in truth and in spirit.
May the eyes of our understanding be opened to see You an know You as You are.
May we seek Your face more than Your hand.
May all sincere but confused hearts be set free and be delivered from every form of deception.
    Father, have mercy upon us!
    (Luke 18 : 10 – 14 , Micah 6 : 6 – 8)

    • Francis Godwin

Nothing wrong with that, except your mission harmonized it to be brought to the Supreme priest for proper administration.

    • Ejueyitchie Abel

The pastor is head of the church,so giving to the church is things to the pastor
Let’s obey the principle of Gods word
      Thanks

      • Endy

God is head of the Church not the Pastor. The Pastor simply overseas the Church activities, and stands as God’s representative

      • Ikenna Cornerstone

No Christ is the head of the church. Take your Bible and read. God made it readable.
First fruit offering is not a Bible doctrine and has no effect on your eternal destiny.

You’re are free to decline, because God will not accept any thing not brought with a willing and cheerful disposition.

God will bless you if you’re born again, and serving him in holiness. You’re not under obligation to give God a firstfruit as a condition of his blessings. You’re already blessed.

Giving to the work of God attracts a REWARD.

There are a number of ways to give
        1.your time
        2.your talent
        3.your resources
        4.your professional calling
        Etc.
all these attracts a reward. So it must not be money.

        • sochima

Can i just add that even we are to follow the author’s line of approach, the request for first fruit is only for a sheaf (meaning a portion of harvest of grain etc – which ccould be money in today’s world), NOT YOUR entire first harvest/wine/ salary.
As a matter of fact, Deu 18:3 makes it clear as to the body part of the bull or sheep that should be sacrificed.
I am worried that people are seriously neglecting charity and good works in exchange for these sort of teachings.

  2. Louisa

Do one give all that one earns as salary at the beginning of the year, as in, January as first fruits? If yes, What about the tithe for the month? How would one keep up?

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

Yes. the first income of the year. You remove your tithe from it and give the remaining as first fruit offering. As to how to keep up, Trust God.

      • Israel Adetola

You guys decided not to publish my comment and I will continue to post it . If you like publish it or not. For your information I have taken screenshots and will post it on all social media avenues.

Madam Malachi Oluwakemi – You are a wicked person. See the way you’re propagating this “first fruit scam of a thing” and then you go ahead and say as to how to cope – trust God! Chai you are wicked! My question to you is who is Pastor Adeboye or RCCG as a ministry paying first fruit to? Pls answer me.

        • Peter Mwangi Macharia

ATTENTION TO Israel Adetola : Pls majority of readers in this subject are blessed by the message. If you don’t like it honestly as a good Christian, you should be calm n not insult anybody. THIS IS A CHRISTIAN STUFF. By the way I have never met the Servant of God Adeboye but am looking forward to that, I like his books And his anointed messages. The message us very clear Bibilically.

      • sochima

That is a very big lie.. The Bible says “a sheaf” which means a portion NOT ALL.
I really feel sorry for people, somethings can be interpreted even with common sense.

Is this the personality of the God we serve? Is he a tax man? You give everything and you live on what?
Show me where in the Bible where God demanded for all the first fruit.

    • Sadas

Yes it is the whole for the year. Once you give your first fruit there is no need to give tithe for that month because you have given everything.

    • Juno Oklam

You pay your tithe and give a WORTHY portion of ur first salary..if u have been promoted with a salary raise to go with it during the year, give a WORTHY portion of the difference between your former and new salary after removing ur tithe.that is the first fruit of your increase..IMPORTANT THING IS TO GIVE CHEERFULLY AND TIMELY OUT OF LOVE AND APPRECIATION OF YOUR CREATOR NOT OBLIGATION..#shalom

      • sochima

This isby far the most accurate rresponseon here.. ” give a worthy portion” NOT all”.

        That was the commandment.

  3. Nike Adedeji

I have read the Bible several times in order to understand the tithe and offering. I know that tithe is explicitly a tenth of income.

However the first fruit has been referred to in terms of sheaf and grains. I have not seen a biblical reference that connotes giving 100% of income of the first salary or income. What I observe is that it is given to the high priest just like tithe. Is there any biblical reference on the measure of the first fruit. It is a freewill offering and I have not seen a reference to all. Offering is supposed to be a token or a sample of the best. It is also at the harvest which is end of the year not beginning

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

You might be very correct, but in a situation like this, what we can do is to give God the benefits of the doubt.

    • Kikelomo Owoade

You can do a proper study from Deut.26 and leviticus 23 which from my studies revealed first fruit to be 2/3 of harvest. Bless you.

    • Kocabelle

I think you are right Nike.
And in order to avoid giving unbelievers more reasons to insult and doubt the CHURCH, we should be careful not to say things we can’t back up with scriptures no matter how right it feels to us.
I tried studying that too and nowhere does it say the first fruit is 100% of the increase. I think it’s extremely honorable to be able to give that. And that an extremely honorable blessing will come from it too. But still, let’s avoid telling people what percentage it ought to be since we can’t back it up with scriptures.
I also believe that though it’s a commandment in the Old Testament, your heart should be the measuring scale of what your first fruit should be. And do not let anyone make you feel like not giving it is a sin. Especially if you regularly pay your tithe.
Just focus on Loving your God and the Spirit will lead you at every given time.

PS: thank you for this article
      God bless.

  4. Stephen Ameh

Thank you for this vital message is indeed helpful. but please i need a litle more understanding take for instance i am not fully employed right now what i do is i do private home lesson teacher and i do follow a friend to do some IT installations ones a while when i am invited over to join them of sent we them. that is i do all i can lay hand on just to keep life going for now while i am still on the look out for job. Now i just receive a cash gift and happens to be the first money or income in my hand which ordinarily in the course of the month when such cash gift come i pay my tithe and give my love offering out of.
My question now is what would my first fruit be
1, The cash gift that came in first
    2. The income from the private home lessons i do.
    3. The income from the IT jobs i get to do with my friends often time when he calls on me or when am needed.

    Thanks

    • Sadas

It is the first cash gift you received that is your First fruit. .That is the first cash you received for the year, that is why it is called FIRST fruit. And once you give that no need for tithe for that month.

  5. Evang. Adeosun Israel

To the best of my knowledge as a bible scholar, Tithes and offerings had replaced the First-fruit offerings. the FF offerings were ordered while tithes and offering were not mentioned.
If FF offering is offered,(say January salaries or incomes) that put paid to tithes that should have been paid monthly for the rest of the year or season. Cumulatively per annum, tithes are greater that FF offering…….I stand to be corrected by His Spirit.

  6. EFE

We christians should realize that all of God’s commandments(no matter what our human minds think about them ) are for our own good.God has nothing to lose if we don’t enter the fullness of the blessings He has for us due to our failure to obey.Instead,we will be the ones to lose. Shalom.

  7. AYODELE Emmanuel

I am a pastor of a church. I also teach as a part time teacher. Please tell me. do I pay my tithe into my church or another church. Though I do pay my tithe to other churches. Now. I will be paid for November and December salary and by the end of January I will receive the January salary.Should all be paid as my first offering or what percentage of it should I give as my first fruit. Finally. Should I bring my first offering to my church or send it to another church. Please I need urgent clarification. Thanks

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

God bless you Pastor. Your tithe should be paid to the church where you are being spiritually nourished in words and prayers. As per your first fruit offering, your November and December Salaries are not your first fruit. But your January Salary. Except you are led to give it. But in the real sense, your January salary is your first fruit regardless of when you are paid. In all these, give God the benefit of the doubt.

    • Ime J. Usua

I think we don’t understand the real intrinsic value of CHRISTIANITY.
Why are we teaching and asking so many questions bordering what has been done away?
These prescriptions and explanation is not necessary if the church is taught to give willingly, cheerfully and as able.
Remember, firstfruit is law given, and when a part is broken, all is broken. CHRIST died to set us at liberty to give as able, willingly and cheerfully.

    • Kocabelle

You start by telling us u are a pastor and a teacher, and then ask us questions. Lol. That’s funny. Pls don’t be offended. It really is just funny. If u had introduced yourself like that to give us answers, it would have been more appropriate.
      (Just saying)
Now to answer your question. To the best of my knowledge, you pay your tithe where you are spiritually fed at that given time. For eg: if you worship at RCCG that month, it’s only fair that you pay your tithe there that month. If by the next month you find yourself in another church, the same goes.
Or another instance is, personally I have been listening to Apostle Selman all through this month and believe I was tremendously blessed by his teaching, so I decided to pay my tithe to his ministers this month even though I have never attended his church physically.
I hope this helps you sir.
PS: please don’t be offended by my laughter. I did it in love.
      God bless

  8. Elohor Theresa Okoro

Please help to clarify. After paying your first fruits of your income for the year are you still expected to pay your monthly tithes for the year? I want to know if your first fruits is the accumulation of your tithes for the year?. Thank you.

    • Gaga

After paying your first fruit. You are still expected to pay your tithes. You must separate your tithes to your first fruit.

    • Malachi Oluwakemi

Your first fruit does not cover your tithes for the year. When you receive your first income, remove your tithe from it and pay the rest as first fruit offering, Then the subsequent incomes, you remove your tithe and pay for each month if you are a salary earner.

  9. liz

Do not be confused with first check of the year – I was confused and did some research

The firstfruits offering is never directly applied to Christian giving in the New Testament. However, Paul taught the Corinthian believers to set aside a collection “on the first day of the week” (1 Corinthians 16:2). And, just as the offering of firstfruits was an occasion of thanksgiving, so the Christian is to give with gladness.

In summary, firstfruits symbolizes God’s harvest of souls, it illustrates giving to God from a grateful heart, and it sets a pattern of giving back to Him the first (and the best) of what He has given us. Not being under the Old Testament Law, the Christian is under no further obligation than to give cheerfully and liberally (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

So in addition to our regular tithing —- just give from the heart, but dont forget to bless the church’s needs, the pastor, the member’s needs, blessing those needs IS GIVING OUR FRUITS to God.

    • Tomilola

Please, ma. Don’t bring heresies here. the while bible is for our instruction – both new and old testament. The bible is clear on this matter as stated in the message above. Don’t bring your head knowledge or inferences on first fruits to mislead other willing christians.
The first fruits and tithes are for our own benefit. What can you possibly give to the owner of the entire universe? It is a way if honoring God and trust me, when you honor him, He will also honor you and cause men to honor you. God doesn’t owe any man.

  10. Abalis

is the firstfruit the first income or first salary? if it is first salary, those getting money on daily or weekly basis how do we arrive at the first month for them? and if we are calculating in terms of months is it really biblical or convenience? or because most workers are salary earners? I know of sacrificial giving, liberal giving, thanksgiving and many other forms as one is challenged and led all directly explained in the bible without many explanations and everybody that loves God obey. But how first one month salary was selected has not been really explained from the Bible as the meaning of first fruit offering. Notwithstanding, if one or I feel led to give January salary to God, it is biblical but for me to tell another that that is the meaning of first fruit offering then is something that has not defended in the bible. I stand to be corrected.

  11. phife

Pls educate me, i am a minister in redeem church but i use to attend Deeper life church for bible study and sometime i worship with them on Sunday. If I want to pay first fruit, where should i pay my first fruit Deeper life or redeem?

    • George

Thats Why it is good you choose one as your church even though it does not mean you cant listen to the messages of the other preacher or attend their meetings

    • Ayodeji

I believe you know the answer to this already and if you don’t, it NO. Who cares about the money, in any form at that? The soul of a sinner is more important to God than all the treasures of the earth. So to get blessings from God, such should first REPENT and be saved.

  12. Yetunde

Is first fruits the increase in salary for example I was earning 60000 naira before and later got paid 140000.Is it that 80000 is the increase that I will pay as my first fruit or is it the whole of 140000 naira.please help me

    • Rosemarie Koufie

Please its the whole, imagine you receive a salary of 7000 naira in march and in April your salary was increased to 15000 naira, You do the first fruit on the 15000 naira. Thanks

    • Ayodeji

Your first fruit is the difference between your previous salary and the new. This is called FIRST FRUIT OF INCREASE. Based on your example, your first fruit will be the 80000.

    • kehinde

I’ll suggest you call the contact numbers but unfortunately, non of the numbers are connecting. The website has an online giving and first fruit platform.

  13. Victor Davids

I’m a member of RCCG in one of the provinces in Lagos. In whose name should I raise the cheque for first fruit please? This is actually my first time. Thanks . God bless you.

  14. yinka

What happened when loans are being deducted from salary which has in a way depleted the actual amount to be paid as first fruit?.

  15. Popoola Mofolasade Oluwakunmi

I have tried severally to pay my first fruit offering online but it has not been going. Is there any issues with the platform?

  16. Esther

I paid my first fruit to the ministry where I got the teaching about the first fruit the very first time because my church does not teach about firstfruit .I just want to know if I did the right thing?

  17. The church is daily being embarrassed by the undue emphasis on money. There are over 600 laws of Moses in the old testament. Why is the RCCG so fascinated by the ones that have to do with money. By the way can you tell this forum a single sample of first fruit in the new testament. First fruit in new testament is about souls to God’s kingdom and not money. There is no basis for the.money for first fruit in the new dispensation

  18. Anjolaoluwa

Please can I pay my firstfruit twice. I mean paying it two times due to financial constraints. I need urgent answers. God bless you

    • Ayodeji

I don’t see scriptural basis for subjecting yourself to undue pressure because you want to pay first fruit. This is not the dispensation of law, it is of grace and the heart with which you give is more important to God than the value/amount you give. God loves a cheerful giver so don’t give what you are not 100% willing to give. It is an offering not an obligation. I advise you to pay as the holy spirit directs you.

  19. Sai

Hi,I am a college student & I just received an allowance every month. But knowing about the FIRSTFRUIT these really challenge me.I really want to give my first fruit this coming march but as a student, should I really give my whole allowance for that month? Please,I do really need your advices.

    • Ayodeji

If you are led to give all your allowance as your first fruit, please do, it as a means of honouring your Father. But if you know that your giving all will lead you to beg for bread throughout the month, please give part of it, again as your spirit directs you. Our God is not wicked and he knows that you will give more if and when you have. If this is your first time, this is my advice. Subsequently, you can save towards your need in a particular month and give all your allowance for that month. Allow the holy spirit and the word of God to guide you.

  20. Hi, I am a college student & I just received an allowance every month. But knowing about the FIRSTFRUIT these really challenge me.I really want to give my first fruit this coming march but as a student.

  21. TM

Hi. How often should a monthly salary earner pay FIRST FRUITS…once a year or every month? I have never taken it seriously. But i want to start paying it now. How do i pay it?

  22. Ayanwole Emmanuel

Hmm. Being honest with the bible is to interpret it contextually and never to read our minds into it. Let’s say whatever it says, else there will be various interpretation to scriptures, which is leading many into error.. I wish everyone who preaches the ordinance of FIRST FRUIT will not cherry pick a portion on it, if they can observe it as stated in the scriptures, I wouldn’t see need to disagree with them. Study Leviticus 23:9-14 (one out of the many scripture on it).
Also, if it’s to be practiced, it’s to be given to who? Answers to such question as this will actually be an answer to Adebanji Adisa’s (the first comment; i guess) Prayer…. I say a big Amen to your prayer.

    Shalom

  23. Funmilayo

I just started working and I’m owing about 50,000 which I borrowed from the person that got me the job to learn how to drive and for transportation for documentation, now have been paid, and I promise to pay my first fruit what should I do?
